Synopsis: Goodreads

Strange things are happening to Daire Santos. Crows mock her, glowing people stalk her, time stops without warning, and a beautiful boy with unearthly blue eyes haunts all her dreams. Fearing for her daughter’s sanity, Daire’s mother sends her to live with the grandmother she’s never met. A woman who recognizes the visions for what they truly are—the call to her destiny as a Soul Seeker—one who can navigate the worlds between the living and dead.

There on the dusty plains of Enchantment, New Mexico, Daire sets out to harness her mystical powers. But it’s when she meets Dace, the boy from her dreams, that her whole world is shaken to its core. Now Daire is forced to discover if Dace is the one guy she’s meant to be with…or if he’s allied with the enemy she’s destined to destroy.

My Review:

I’m honestly really disappointed with Fated… First of all, I know I had a proof copy, but there were really stupid mistakes – wrong tenses, missing letters… It got annoying and it only happened a few times that I can remember. I’m hoping that got cleared up in the final copy!

Although I’m disappointed with Fated, I am a huge fan of Alyson’s The Immortal Series, so maybe I just had high expectations? The cover is gorgeous, I do love it. The way the crows come out of the models hair is clever and links in VERY well with the story. The bright yellow is something I was originally peeved about, but I generally like it.

Onto the story. I can’t say I like Daire much. I did enjoy the first few chapters of Fated but I lost interest quickly as the novel came to an almost stand still – it was just really slow for me. And anyone knows I do not like slow books, I like to be interested and hooked the whole way. The occasional slow chapter is fine, but not the entire novel…

None of the characters stand out about from Chay… I liked the chapters with Chay and Daire, but that’s about it. I especially liked the chapter when Chay takes Daire horse riding, I don’t know why but I suppose Chay was just a separate character to Daire’s destiny but he was funny and down to earth, and I liked him.

I enjoyed the reveal of Daire’s destiny, but my enjoyment didn’t last long. I am really disappointed with Fated, I was really excited. I haven’t even decided if I want to read the second one when it’s released.. We’ll just have to wait and see I suppose…
