The Griffin fixed its hungry eyes on Sadie…’Sadie,’ I said, ‘drop the scroll.’
‘Hello? It’s stuck to my hand!’ she protested.
‘And I’m on fire! Did I mention that?’

EVER SINCE THE GODS of ancient Egypt were unleashed on the modern world, Carter Kane and his sister, Sadie, have been in trouble. As descendants of the magical House of Life, they commend certain powers. But now a terrifying enemy- Apophis, the giant snake of chaos- is rising.

If Carter and Sadie don’t destroy him, the world will end in five days’ time.. And in order to battle the forces of chaos, they must revive the sun god Ra- a feat no magician has ever achieved. First they must search the world for the three sections of the Book of Ra, then they have to learn how to chant it’s spells…

Can the Kanes destroy Apophis before he swallows the sun and plunges the earth into darkness…forever?

My Review:

The Book:

My love for these characters is just growing! This series has introduced me to the world of Rick Riordan and damn, I absolutely cannot imagine my life without his characters in my life now. The Kane children, Sadie and Carter, have a whole new battle to face in this story, and once again they are charged with saving the world. Again.

Here they have to awake the Sun God Ra! However things don’t go as expected. We meet new Gods in this tale and make new friends. I honestly felt like this was a great second book, it didn’t have the second book slump I sort of expected because the same level of humor follows into this one, the same great characters (with new ones added) and a great threat. Bes was a wonderful addition to the story and honestly he became my second favourite God, next to Bast. They are just both amazing characters and play such important roles.

Riordan just shows me once again that he’s a brilliant writer. I cannot wait to get started on the third book. I know that this series isn’t as popular as Rick Riordan’s other series, but it is absolutely worth giving it a shot! Especially if you like the Egyptian mythology.

The Reading:

Once again Joseph and Jane were hilarious and wonderful. The sibling relationship was so prominent in this story as just so much happened. The two performed their characters so well and I’m thoroughly enjoying listening to them both. I really enjoyed hearing how their voices for other characters were also consistent into this novel. This made it easier for me (who doesn’t have a physical copy of the book) to follow the story and not get confused, because there are a lot of characters!

Such a wonderful series about Egyptian Mythology and the Kane family and all it’s drama. I will be sad to see it end, but hand me the third one now! I cannot wait!
